AFRICAN RAINFOREST CONSERVANCY | TANZANIA
In 2008, I traveled to the mountains of Tanzania to document and promote a little-known philanthropic endeavor called the African Rainforest Conservancy. Its mission is to conserve what little remains of one of the world’s most biologically-diverse rainforests. To do this, it empowers the people living there to create and maintain sustainable food sources, such as fish ponds, as well as tree farms, that serve as an alternative to cutting down old growth trees.
The project was narrated by Lauren Hutton, a passionate advocate for the rainforests and people of Tanzania. I served as writer, director, DP and producer, raising all the capital required to travel, shoot, edit and complete the project.
This work was some of the most meaningful of my lifetime, and I hope people continue to help save the African rainforests by promoting sustainable, community-building initiatives like that of the ARC.
